    That's terrible...

But in that case you got the owner's permission. I didn't so I didn't know whether I was in the right/wrong. But from all your replies, I feel better that I did the right thing!

You did the right thing! I had two little shitzu's greeting me outside my house one morning on my way to work. They were completely matted & one had roadwork plastic caught around his leg. I also looked for a tag with a number, which i did not find so popped them straight into my car & headed them to the pound. I didn't necessarily like the idea of taking these two jolly boys to the pound to be locked up but at the end of the day if they had gotten run over i would never forgive myself, also i thought if my dog had gone missing that would be the first place i would ring to find her. I did contact the pound the next day to ask if the boys had been picked up & happily enough they were collected I only hope to think the owners were grateful for finding them rather than the fine they would of received

You did the right thing and you showed you cared about the dog by doing the hard thing and taking the dog to the pound. It would have been easier to just put him in the yard and go but you did not and I hope I would do the same.

If you had left him anything could have happened to him and he does not deserve that.

I did find a dog a couple of weeks ago and my friend phoned the number on the tag and the person said what do you want me to do?In the end we just said where do you live and took the dog home which was just round the corner. What are some people like!

I have to say, if I'd seen that little chap around a bit longer, that collar would have fallen off and I would have found a stray a few suburbs over, put the notices up in that suburb and kept it, if no one claimed it. Poor lamb was begging to leave. I didn't write this. A friend told me to...

What you have done is very similar to what i have done, Taken an old dog away from there owner (who is a family member) who wasn't looking after her. They wouldn't even know she was sick if it wasn't for me taking her to the vet straight away when i saw how bad she was. (she can't breath properly) Either there is a bone lodged in her throat or she has cancer.. I only say cancer because she has a big lump on her neck.. It could be pushing on her throat making it hard to breath. And now instead of accepting my offer to pay for the operation to get a camera put down her throat to see what it is for sure... she just wants to put her down. She is 14 to be fair. but i think she atleast deserves a chance.

edit: YOU DID THE RIGHT THING!
