Default How to Get More Members?

Hello Everyone!

I made a post about this about 4-5 months ago when memberships where in there 200's so i thought it was best to start a new thread.

Anyone got any new ideas etc? Im able to spend a few $$ if the idea sounds good, i think its time we really start promoting the site.

Advertising on places like ozdoggy and dogs4sale and um - what's the other one called - where people advertise animals for sale.

I think flyers in vet clinics work really well too

I did a bit of advertising on my other dog forum for us.
On all dog related shop windows might be good too.
The vet is also a good idea as Occy said.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, hopefully when we break the 1,000 member mark we may get a few competition sponsors which would be great to attract new members etc.

One suggestion to make the site more attractive for existing members and new visitors to come back is use some more colour and shades. Here is a couple of other vBulletin sites. This site does look a little plain.

have you thought of using Google adwords? you can limit the budget to your means, as low as $20 a month, and specify which search words will prompt the ad to appear for the person searching. not that it worked for my own site, but i have only a general chat forum, games etc. so was hard to actually think of key words.. it didn't work too well for me, but it just might for you here.. my own budget was limited to $20, and i never did pay much more than $16 a month from memory. might be worth a few months trial perhaps?

have you been looking at vbulletin.org for ready made styles and coloured buttons? there's various mods and things too.. i had fun colouring buttons as i couldn't find anything in purple

I am new...but I will be happy to spred to word....My BF says I am already hooked on this site!
I will advertise at a few of the vets in the area!
I am learning Photo shop at the moment and can do a poster if it would help.
I reckon we could hit 1000 members by the end of the year if we all try!
Networking and word of mouth goes a LONG way......try telling people at obedience and alike! I hear a lot of you go to off lead dog parks.....when you next bump into someone who is out with there dog ....mention this site and how informative and friendly it can be.
We all have common interests (DOGS). If any of us have benefited from this site....I am sure there are many more people we can reach out too.

Hi Morgan, I am reasonably new here too and I enjoy your forum.

Why not advertise in some of the dog magazines? Magz like 'National Dog Ringleader' which goes National and to some extent International or some of the Pet magazines sold in Newsagents. You could also advertise in VicDogs as well as the other Canine Control magz from the various States. ?
