    Default Doggy Door Training

im trying to get my puppy to go through the doggy door. he watches my dads dog go through and then starts whinning when he cant get through. ive pushed him through and showed him treats on the other side. he will walk through on his own if the door isnt in the way and its just a hole in the door but as soon as the door is there he wont push it no matter how many times i push him through so he can see he needs to push and he sees my dads dog go through. he doesnt even try and push the door just sits on the other side and sulks and i eventually after about 5 minutes of trying to cox him through with a treat have to lift the door up and he will climb through.

i have tried walking away and waiting for him to come through but he just sits and sulks or walks off to look for another way in.

what eles can i do or do i have to just wait for him to get used to it and persist with what i am already doing.

our other dog learnt to go through so easily.

Time will see him grow in confidence at using it. I am yet to have a rescue that doesn't eventually use the dog door.

In the mean time, and if you are able, perhaps assist this a little by removing the heavier flap and sticking something softer over the opening that he has to push through.... perhaps make a flap with A4 paper and tape it across the top or something similar.

thought id just add that i think he may have used it last night as he was outside for some reason dont ask me how he got out there as no one let him out and he was waiting at the door for someone to let him in not the doggy door but another door into the house round the side that we use.

he couldnt get back in but he must have used it to get out. the flap was down too and it was the normal plastic hard door.

only other thing could be he followed right behind our other dog as my dads dog used to do and didnt need to push the door and then when the other dog went inside he couldnt get back in.
