Default My dog no longer brings the ball back when fetching only with food reward.

Help? I always end up just saying if you don't want to play properly then no play and go inside. She is a kelpie and needs it so someone help me. Should i just start over?

No help here. I've never taught my dog to return the ball. So I only throw it on walks and throw it in the direction we are walking in. As I said, no help!

Some dogs are not retrievers.......I test puppies at four weeks old to see if they are natural. We have always had working kelpies and none of them were much into retrieving. they preferred to chase the dog that was doing the retrieving.

You can shape retrieving, but the dog needs to want food.....maybe not feed it food from a bowl and make him work for his food. Start at a short distance.

If you are shaping it is a whole different kettle of fish. It might be easier to you-tube it and see people do it kikkopup is really good for training
