Thread: How to Stop the Dog from Jumping?

    Hi Mason

If your pup doesn't respond to the SIT command, then you'll have to work on that first. You'll find it really hard to teach him not to jump if he can't sit.
Keep practicing over and over till he learns. Reward him everytime with treats and pats. Whenever you teach/train him, Have treats in your pocket, that way it's easy to reward him everytime he does something you want him to. Have you been teaching him to sit? If so, how? Has he been desexed?

Yep, I wrote without thinking. Posted about advice given to my sister from a private dog trainer re stopping them from jumping on you. It worked for her but if some inexperienced person were to try it they could harm their dog. Wouldn't like to be responsible for that.

ok thanks for that. I try to teach him by showing him the snack, as soon as he sits, i say sit, give him the treat and praise him.

Yep! good! just the other way around. 1st say sit...keep doing it over and over but keep training sessions short 5-10 minutes each time(but a few times a day).Get others in the family to do it too...and reward, reward, reward

if making him sit doesnt work you can get a can of compressed air from officeworks or something and when the dogs goes to jump up on you, you spray the air down your body between you and the dog. Dogs dislike it greatly and if you do it consitently it will take no time at all for the jumping to stop

When it jumps don't touch it or say anything because your dog will take any form of attention good or bad

your best bet is to ignore it turn your back on it, fold your arms and walk away

once it learns it wont get any attention if it jumps it will stop
