    Default Chewing Girlfriends Underwear

Hi Guys im new here sorry if I’m posting in the wrong section,

I have a question about my dog chewing my Girlfriends underwear.
I have had my dog (shaz) since she was a puppy and is 5 now, a border collie cross jack russel/wippet. And recently she has started chewing my new girlfriends underwear usually when were in another room. I have had a few girlfriends before and Shaz has never done this to any of them just seems to be over the last 6 months with this girl.

Its only underwear (6 pairs)and has been one pair of shoes, Shaz hasn’t chewed anything else ever, obviously we try to keep all the stuff up and away from the dog.

I have tried taking some of mine and her clothes and leaving it in her basket to see if that made a difference but it didn’t.

My routines and the way I treat the dog hasn’t changed with this girlfriend except she stays at my place a little more often

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

    Cheers Batten

Hahaha, my pooch Oskar is a serial undy sniffer and chewer. We try to give him a treat to retrieve them, don't chase Shaz, she will think its a game. Just try and catch her before she starts chewing and divert her attention to something else.

i have never acually cought her in the act she kinda sneaks in dowes it then sneaks off.

she is a very submissive dog but (very cheaky) and i know she knows doing it is wrong but i just dont know how to train her out of it.

like she knows she isnt allowed on the couch but will be on it and off again if im out of the room.

Sounds like you have got the old snow dropper there.
One way to stop it is to keep the one doing it out of the room.

It's pretty standard for a dog to chew underwear.

Best way to prevent it is to make sure underwear (clean or dirty) is NEVER left where dog can get to it.

I have a wash basket that is very difficult for my dog to get into and I keep the door to my room shut as much as possible.

Punishment for forgetting - is chewed stuff.

And girls frequently just smell better than boys for some reason.
Mine looks a little bit like this
I can put the washing baskets in the top - just to make it even harder to get at the contents.
Double Laundry Hamper Canvas Wooden Frame - Online Shopping@Costmart.com.au

Note - I haven't shopped with that site, I got mine from Blayney (NSW) tourist info centre.

It happens cos the undies smell good and chewing them up is fun and the opportunity is there.

Theoretically it can be trained out but it's easier and probably more hygienic to make sure the undies (clean or dirty) are not where the dog can get them. Look up "Its yer choice" and progress that game to include sox - ie being rewarded for leaving them alone.

Dogs chase dirty socks around the Alice - Northern Territory Country Hour - ABC Rural Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
This is about teaching dogs tracking - using sox. The sox at home have to be kept where the dogs cannot get them...

None of my dogs chew anything, I can leave food on the table when we go out and it stays untouched, yet leave a pair of dirty underwear or socks on the floor and they will have holes in them in 2 seconds flat.

My solution: A metal framed laundry hamper.
