Hence me saying "so called purely positive" it's crappy terminology and paints the wrong picture completely. "Reward based" is far more accurate. To the general public 'purely positive' literally means only good things.

Got it exactly right to my understanding Hya. (PR, PP, NR, NP)

I know exactly what you mean about treating animals like they can actually speak.

This article does not prove anything by any means and it's really just a bit of light reading, but it touches on some of the ideas discussed in this thread: The Dog Whisperer vs. Victoria Stilwell

    Quite good article to read.......

However i feel about some of Cesar's techniques and especially putting them on TV, fo non trainers to try and emulate. He impresses me when he goes for a walk/run with his pack of twenty plus dogs. That always impresses me ( and I am sure many others)

This genuinely surprises me considering the response you had to the video you started this thread to discuss?? I've seen CM be FAR more heavy handed with dogs than the trainer in the OP.

We used to watch Cesar every day when it was on SBS in the afternoons. Great viewing and amazing results. But it was never really explained very well how to implement his methods. I suppose that's why they call him the dog whisperer. He just kind of does it.

One thing I did always notice was that he never seems to pat the dogs he's training or even give them any sort of positive attention. That may be one reason why he achieves such great results. But this is never explained in those episodes. If you're like most people, who love showing their dogs lots of affection, you most likely are going to have to up the reward to motivate the dog.

    NO WAY!

I was a stay at home mum for 3 years = Alot of tv time

I have never, ever, even close seen him be as heavy handed as this guy! please prove me wrong if its possible but i honestly doubt you would be able to.

I love him because of what he stands for, he has given so much of his life to rescue, training, breed preservation. He is a huge advocate for protection of pittbulls and puts a hell of alot of time and money into animals that should of been "Put Down"

I may not follow ALL of his training techniques but i have taken some on board and you know they have ALL worked!

When I see people saying they HATE him ect Really do my head in to ne honest.

And I don't really agree with this? The worst I've seen him do is a slight tap on the side. He does not use choke chains. Instead swears by wearing the collar right under the chin and I frankly have never seen him yank on that collar. And I watched lots of episodes!
