    Unhappy Marking Little Monkey

    Hello everyone

I am new to this forum and want to get some comment on some curious puppy behaviour. Two weeks ago I bought home a Terrier C from the Lost Dogs Home. Ollie is a lovely little fellow - quite a character, approx 12 months old. He even seems to be housetrained He was a little timid at first but seems to have settled in nicely - well you would if you were spoilt like he is

Anyway yesterday we went back to the Dogs Home to the Vet - you see we came home with Kennel Cough! In the car he was a real villian, wouldnt settle and tried very hard to chew off his harness, which I later realised was on back to front . Any way we get into the vet (very cute, the vet that is!) and Ollie has a complete meltdown, starts shaking - won't even relax for the vet to make him cough etc.

A treat for the ride home calmed him considerably but later that night he walks to his doggy door, looks at it, turns around and walks straight over to the wall and lifted his leg! Not a spray but a full on wee. To anyone else this may be funny, NOT ME! The little monkey did it again this morning.

I am thinking maybe stress from the vet visit - anyone else got any thoughts?

    Thank you V.

Hmmm thats a tricky one! He might be a little stressed from the Vet but I can't be too sure. I hope he gets better and starts going out the doggy door again! Maybe try and convince him to go through it with treats or something?

How did you clean the wall? Don't use bleach/ammonia - it smells like pee to them.

Nah...just used white vinegar and water. Also got some organic stuff from the pet shop. The organic stuff worked a treat....he went and peed on the opposite wall....oh dear.....

Flash did it at mums too - complete act of dominance. Has never ever done it here. Perhaps consider doing some NILIF?

Yes have decided that it is time to set some new boundaries. I think Ollie is trying to test the boundaries of who is boss! At this point i think we have differing views!

Have decided he needs to spend the day outdoors when I am work, no more comfortable laundry with dog door. He has a kennel with a nice snoozer and nice backyard to play in. I think he needs to learn whose space is whose!

We are off to a one-on-one training at the dogs home on Saturday and then we have some obedience training booked in on a weekly basis.

I think I need some help in getting Ollie to understand me

He sounds like a young man who hasn't had much direction in his life. The page Occy recommends is a good start.

Daily walking on lead is good to, structured walking, with heeling and some exercises like sits thrown in for good measure.

He will come to understand that you are the leader, and he'll love it.
