Honestly it doesn't sound like that big a deal.

Dogs can't seem to do a damn thing right these days. All we seem to do here at the moment is bitch about dog's behaviour and 'stupid' owners not doing the right thing.

If you didn't like the dog jumping up, politely ask the owner to remove the dog.

Why would you want to hurt/hit a dog who is saying hello even if it was being a bit over the top?
I don't know about you, but I don't like having big, wet, slobbery dogs sticking their head up my ass. I don't like having big, wet, slobbery dogs brushing past my leg. I don't even like having big wet dogs licking my hands.
I don't like it, so keep your big, wet, slobbery dog away from me.

    I can't STAND disrespectful dogs.

And I hope someone drops a big dripping wet cold sponge in your lap sometime. And see how you like it.

It was an everybody beach. Dogs are allowed off lead so long as they're under control before 10am. But this one was not under control, was not carrying its council rego tag, and was harrassing other people on the beach. That's not right and just causes complaints so that responsible people and their dogs get banned.

But you're right I should have politely asked the owner to remove their rude dog. Then again, I should not have needed to do that.

I live right near the beach so am used to big, wet, slobbery dogs around with the occasional jump up to say hi and it doesn't bother me as long as the dog is friendly and playful ( my dogs don't go to the beach as they are not friendly and playful around other dogs).

I don't know why everyone has to act like the dog police on a simple trip to the beach. So bloody what if the dog didn't have it tags on? Mine don't wear collars but they are registered. Who's to say the owner of the Lab didn't have the tags in their pocket?

I can understand you having a conniption about an out of control charging aggressive dog but this doesn't sound like the case.

    Pick your battles I say

I too live a 5 minute walk from a very popular family beach.
Just because it doesn't bother you, it doesn't mean we are all as welcoming.

JJames, I don't think anyone has suggested that they do not enjoy dogs bring dogs, nor do I think anyone is whining. If I'm understanding correctly, Posters are simply suggesting that dog owners who allow their dogs to do whatever they please lack common courtesy for others... Certainly you don't allow your dogs to go off uncontrolled, I don't understand why you object to others being frustrated by someone who does?

Unfortunately, owners who lack courtesy give dogs a bad name, then this in turn leads to rules which them limit the chances for dogs to be dogs, if that made any sense...

I wasn't wearing my togs. And I wasn't interested in getting all wet, it's not like there are change rooms at this beach. And I'm pretty sure this particular dog would do the same to a frail old lady or a toddler.

It's one thing to have a dog jump on a fit strong bloke wearing a wetsuit for protection against the claws, and another for it to do it to an unprotected less strong person or child. Feral labs do not notice any difference.

I never suggested anywhere that dogs be allowed to do whatever they please, far from it. But man..... can't a dog do anything without a thread being started about it and their 'stupid' owners?

I love talking dogs as much as the next forum member but honestly sometimes it's a bit much

However you are well within your rights to discuss whatever you like and I will in the future avoid these type of threads like I normally do (not sure why I came in in the first place)

I did label it a "vent".

You could start your own thread and call it "whinge about people whinging about badly behaved dogs" or something...

There are some threads I stay clear of because I know the content is only going to annoy me.

Agree with Villain and Hya. We are not whinging about dogs being dogs. We are whinging about irresponsible, rude owners who allow their dogs to do whatever they please. It's because of owners like that, that non dog people complain and we end up with more restrictions on where we can and can't take our dogs!

I was not wearing swimmers and did not want to get sandy, wet, dirty and hairy and then get back into my car. It was downright rude and I should have said something also but I dislike confrontations. I could have walked away but I had every right to be there as much as her and her dog. I had the right not to be harassed by her dog. Just like if I felt Phi was going to harass people or their dogs I would call her back to me or go and get her if she wasn't coming. It is common courtesy.

Thanks Hya. She is a little springbok she bounds around and looks so funny with her long legs flying all over the place!
