I would be furious if anyone EVER tried to alpha roll one of my dogs. Completely unnecessary IMO. There are plenty of great trainers and behaviourists out there who are capable of getting great results with dangerously aggressive dogs without pinning them to the ground.

Dogs do it in the wild.

Well for me its Ceasar all the way ( guess it helps that he floats my boat as well )

But having said that,I take meany things from many different trainers and add a dash of myself and mix well. Each dog requires a new recipe.

Just on the alpha role- I have used it,twice, hope to have not have such an extreme case to have to have cause to use it again but it did work/help in both cases I resorted to with it. It is certainly something I do not think any novice dog handler should use and Cesar says that about his methods each episode

No they don't, this is a myth.

What actually happens is one dog will offer up submission ie they will roll themselves. My dog does it by way of greeting another dog, she will crawl up to it and roll over. Or sometimes she crawls along with her head and shoulder on the ground and her bum in the air. And she does this for some people too.

I've never seen a dog actually grab another dog by the throat and throw it on the ground and then hold it down. I've seen loads of dogs roll over when another dog gives them "the look" - sometimes backed up by a growl. But the boss dog never touches the grovelly dog.

My dog quite frequently makes the "kill the antelope" neck hold on another dog but it is always with the other dog's agreement. She never forces it to roll over or holds it down when it wants to get up.

Hyac I've seen Lady do it heaps of times as in, stands tall with her head over the other dog, nose touching the dogs throat. Not exactly rolling the dog over physically, because the dog will usually submiss before she has to be physical. She's been in three fights all because the other dog didn't submiss. I assume she did physically try and roll the dog, but the dog didnt submiss with the gesture, so why would it submiss with a physical one.
