Thank you for sharing your story with me. You have really done wonders for Tori. She is so lucky to have found someone like you to help her through.

I don't know much about clicker training, but a lot of people seem really happy with. Why does it work better then just a treat?

I think the clicker works well because it is a distinct sound. Normally you may mark your dogs action with a yes or good dog and then treat. The dog has to distinquish that from the general white noise of your voice and other words, and work out the behaviour it was associated with.

A click is such a definite and distinctive marker that the dogs seem to respond well to it. The click is also more accurate for marking the exact behaviour you want, which is why timing is important. They hear the click at the exact moment their bum touches the ground for say a sit and they know a treat or reward is following for that exact bheviour. Mine will work extra hard to get that click, trying hard to replicate the behaviour I will click and treat.
