I agree with Ashaari, I only feed my dogs in their pens, unless they are training this is also the only place they get treats, when I buy a new toy this is where they play with it first, anything that is good in their minds they get in the pen, they then associate the pen with the good stuff and sometimes I can't even get my girl to come out when she's allowed as she associates 'good' so much with her kennel and pen. All I have to say now is bed and in they go. However most nights my dogs are inside with me, but there have been times when I have to go out at night and they are turfed outside into the pen and they are still quite happy to go.

I have been feeding them outside the back door - easiest for me But I'll try feeding near the kennel.

Love to have them inside, especially in the winter, but I'm not allowed in my current house.

Getting some GSDs in the mail soon so if the hype is true all sorts of training should be a breeze!

If you don't mind me asking, why aren't they allowed in your current house? Especially considering they're allowed inside with you before bed?

Not at all....I'm renting, original stipulation was dogs should be outside all the time but I talked them down to inside sometimes if under supervision. Moving in with OH next year so should be able to sleep inside then.

I don't really have any advice, as our guys sleep in our bedroom with us... but I don't see that the landlord will know if they're sleeping inside, unless you live with them lol.

Meegs, do you ever go out to the dogs kennels and just wander in, sit down, igve a pat, treat, , walk out and let pedro walk out with you?

Pedro associates kennel with yukky place he is is alone. he associates all your tell-tale signs. he has prolly started to associate the treats giving with the ruddy kennel too, the smart boy. Lol.

Try feeding him there, try also spending more time in his kennel area.

I'll try that, but usually it's a race to see who can get out the gate first when I open it!

Goodies, I will admit the step-pup sleeps indoors when she comes to visit, anything else results in noise complaints

Personally, I'd simply let him inside if you're sure he can hold his bladder during the night. Its pretty easy to do a good clean before inspection day to make sure the real estate agent doesn't know.
