    Default Dog Trick Shake

    Hi All,

just a quick question, if you are teaching your dog to shake left or shake right, for left- do you teach them their left paw or left when looking at them (which would be their right) ?

    Hope that makes sense,
    Thanks!

That is totally up to you I would say as your dog has no idea what left and right means. Ziggy shakes with her right front leg first when I say "shake" and the her left leg when I say "and the other hand"

Thats what Ash has been doing if I ask shake he does his right first, must be what comes naturally.

Just thought to add left and right in, and then if I ever try to show it as a trick to someone else watching which would make more sense.

You probably taught him the trick with his right leg and thus he uses it when you ask him to shake. Does he shake already with both legs on command? If so, just say your command and add left and and right when saying it.

    It is up to you.

We taught Max to shake with his right, Teddy with his left. I am working on both with Pipi

Lady knows which hand to shake by which hand I put out. Left hand means right paw, right hand means left paw.
If she gets the wrong paw, I say 'no other'.

The best agility dogs learn left and right. So they can do it. As well as learning away as in go away / out, and here, as in come towards me.

Frosty likes to shake with her left paw. I'm pretty sure she's left pawed.
