    Question General Fear

Just a quick question. I set off the smoke alarms this morning (stupid bluddy toast!) and Batty freaked! But instead of running to the living room or my bedroom (opposite end of the house to the alarms where it's far more quiet) he bolted straight for me and hid behind me burying his head in between my feet and ankles.

I'm still kind of formulating what I want to say, but this is normal isn't it? For a dog to seek his owner rather than run and hide in fear? Or is it weird and should I be looking for other things that may be of concern too?

The ACD down home (with my dad) does the something similar, if he's scared he'll seek out my dad or me and sit next to us (at heel) and growl at whatever is scaring him.

It struck me as odd. It's the first time the smoke alarms have gone off while Batty's been here (not the first time I've set them off though ) and it's probably the most extreme reaction I've seen from him to anything.

On a side note, what're other peoples dogs reactions to things like smoke alarms, sirens etc?

Poor widdle Batty! He ran to you to protect him from the big scary monster that was screaming! I soooo wish Cindy would do that instead of trying to bolt for the hills.

If the fire truck whizzes by here, most of the dogs just bark and all run around like silly things, they aren't scared by it. If they could, I imagine they'd all take off down the road after it....now THAT would be a sight! (a sight I never ever ever want to see)

Awww poor Batty Keeda isn't really scared of anything that happens around the house. Sometimes she's fearful of larger dogs, though, and kind of starts ducking and tucking her tail between her legs. One time a big loose dog ran at us and started snapping at her while we were on our walk and she broke heel and hid behind me while I kicked the dog away (it ran away before my foot reached it).

My 32kg rottie still hides behind me when she is scared. If we are walking and any noisey car or truck comes past she runs behind me to hide. When hubby mows or vaccuums she tries to hide behind my legs while I am relaxing on the couch.

I get the same reaction from only Lop and her mum used to do the same. If they got a fright ( in Eves case not often) they will hide behind or on me ,depending on what/where it is ,they sometimes would face upto it growling but still be glued to me.
    Big tuff dogs.....uh huh

If mine are outside, they sit there and howl until it has gone off.

If they are inside at the time Pipi and Teddy come to hide under the beds but Max just stays put.

LOL. I am under the impression that Dora thinks she is a big, nasty German Shepherd..... she has never EVER ran to me to hide if she is scared.... she runs AT what is scaring her or alarming her, barking and growling her head off.....

I have no idea, I might set mine off and see what they do when all 3 are inside.
