    5-10kg dog: 120gm to 250gm a day.

    I find with the kibble I feed - one yogurt pot (200ml) holds about 100gm of dog kibble - but it varies depending what kibble you have.

    What I do is find some container I can use for a daily measure - like an empty yogurt pot and fill that up and weigh it. Or I weigh out how much I want to feed each meal and find a container that fits it and mark it with a texta at the right height. If you change brand of kibble or from puppy to adult - you will need to do measure again.

    And my Vet says for a desexed dog - they need 1/3 less than the packet recommends. So say you guess based on exercise level eg moderate - you can start in the middle of the range that would be about 120 +half(250-120) eg 120 + 65gm ie 185gm but 2/3 of that is 123gm ie near enough the bottom end of the range. But somewhere between 120 and 150 would be a good place to start for a small desexed dog on that brand. So weigh that out, find something that will hold that, and use that to measure her food.

    Like the others have said - do not leave her food out after five to ten minutes. Do not leave her food where the cats can eat it (clearly they're not hungry either).

    Do try to do your training sessions before breakfast/dinner. That's what I do. Frosty only gets half her breakfast before dog class in the morning and the rest around late lunch time when we get home. Seeing how she'd normally be fed around 9:30 after morning walk and class doesn't finish until around 11:30am - though she could probably wait that long.

    A 250ml measuring cup would hold 250gm of water - but kibble has big holes between pieces and is much less dense than water so a measuring cup - as I have measured holds about half the weight of kibble (depends on the kibble so get your scales out) as it would of water. Note measures are defined so 1ml (volume) of water weighs 1gram. But that doesn't work when you use kibble.

    Ie a 250ml cup of kibble in my experience weighs less than 250gm like about 125 to 150gm.

    I have fed the soft food (casserole) separate to the dry food and I've fed them together. I haven't noticed much difference to what happens to the dog unless she gets car sick in which case we get pure whole kibble back hours after breakfast and no casserole so I don't feed kibble before car trips I think she will be sick on (windy stop start roads). Mostly I feed the casserole first and let her top up on kibble if she's still hungry. Sometimes I put the kibble in a treat ball to let her play with it as she seems to prefer it as a game than straight out the bowl. But I avoid leaving food out all day.

    If you're feeding lots of treats, you can also cut back on the kibble - it's hard to know how much if your dog is a pig, but if she's the sort that stops eating after five to ten minutes and you stick with that, all is good. Otherwise you keep a diary of food and treats and exercise and if she's getting fat increase the exercise and reduce the food... Always measure. If it's still getting away from you, check what other family members are feeding her (don't get mad at them - remember keep it positive or they will only learn to lie to you).

    Hehe - you can have 250 ml that weighs 100 gm or 500gm - depends on the density - but you know that - it's that tassie heatwave getting to you.

    A small dog only needs two cups of food if it's getting some crap commercial supermarket food.

    Rufus could easily live in on 1 and a half cups of the dry I have and he comes in at over 30 kg lol

    Smartass. That's why I buy the packet cakes nad just throw an egg in. I even learnt to take the shell out too, before popping it into the oven.

    No, not a pan. I just pour it over the breadboard, and once it's baked I tip the breadboard upside down and it kind of comes out looking like a chef's top-hat, you know?

    Lol Occy. Not that bad, having you on...well...a bit...a tad...okay, it's debatable.

    Seriously, used to be a good cook, just got so darned sick of being a restaurant I lost all desire to cook new things.

    The cake would have been nicer if you'd remembered to put the egg and sugar in too.

    And if you ate some DA, you'd probably feel better... though chocolate might be more effective.
