Oh I see. I didn't pick up on whether it was rhetorical or not, so I thought WTF? Myf'd know the answer to that any day.

I know NOTHING about alpha dog but I do know what happens with my dogs, if someone can explain the dynamic behind it I am more than happy to listen and learn.

Got Jethro when he was 7 months, he was being shown by his breeder, I took him on to continue showing. He didn't work out in the show ring so is now a pet. Happy dog no issues but loopy as hell, wouldn't listen wouldn't do anything he didn't want to do.

Got Millie from a rescue, 7/8 years, abused all or most of her life. Know no other history. Walks into Jethro's backyard and proceeds to tell him what to do and when. AND Jethro listens. I liken it to a mother telling her son off. She has never been aggressive in the normal every day things she just gets her point across.

Jethro has been a better calmer dog since as she keeps him in line.

Millie is a resource guarder and will protect her food from him and have a go at him if he comes too close - BUT I can walk into the middle of a full on barney without saying a word and she will stop immediately. Then she will nose her food towards me, Jethro will sit and watch.

Am I 'alpha' dog or is Millie? Or am I reading to much into it and Millie is top dog and I am just another resource?

I am very interested in everyones opinion.

If Millie behaves the way you want her to with YOU, then you are 'top dog'.
