May be a good way to get uninterested hubbies into dog training

I like Victoria's style. She has some good techniques that I've tried & they've worked some of the time. I'm a big fan of Jan Fennell. I've heard some uncomplimentary things about Cesar, so I'm probably a little biased when it comes to him. Sorry to Cesar fans ......

Personally I see Cesar as a brilliant businessman, amazing marketer with a great team.... But a man who should not be advertising Alpha Rolling to Joe Public and saying this is how you should treat your dog.

The guy that lives in the house 3 doors down from me has a gorgeous little jack russell boy and a stunning husky girl. Both are scared and don't like going anywhere or doing anything. They were happy when they escaped and decided that my place looked like a great place to dash into (I was getting the mail and the front door was open). I left them at my place, walked up to the guy's house and no-one was home so I left a note on the door explaining that his dogs had escaped and were 'visiting' at my place.

Anyway, doggies were very happy with the pats and cuddles, the games of fetch and the fun they were having while visiting. I hadn't seen either wag it's tail at all. He knocked on the door at 10pm, I opened it, he came in and spoke to the dogs and both promptly dropped and peed themselves. I then found out a few days later that he's a huge advocate of Cesar Milan and follows his methods to the letter. It's definitely not doing anything for his dogs!

Just my personal opinion really. I have seen dogs effectively alpha rolled with the desired effect and no trauma, but I don't believe it's something Joe and Jane Public should be exposed to unless they've gone to a one on one session with a trainer who has the experience to handle it.

I don't like Victoria Stilwell because of this video:

YouTube - Greatest American Dog FIGHT!!!

This man and his dog have an amazing bond. Victoria went completely nuts at him simply because he doesn't stuff treats down his dog's throat every two seconds (no offense to anyone who uses treats in training, I do it too in some cases, but I don't think that it's the only solution or "this way or the highway"). AND then she continues to say that she is "The God of dog training"

But really, isn't Victoria the same? She has a tv show, books, etc - just like Cesar.

I like Cesar, especially his books. Sure, he does a few things that I may not agree with, so therefore I just don't do them. But, I do really try to follow his "energy" stuff - projecting my energy to the dogs. If I stay calm, they stay calm I also like the way he doesn't use food all the time - just his praise and "happy" energy.

There's something about Victoria that I just don't like.... and she doesn't seem to do anything particularly different to any other normal dog trainer.

Yeah...I think Victoria is the same as Cesar when it comes to marketing...tv shows...books etc.

I like Cesar too. I don't like all his methods, but I like him.

I think the "danger" is when people think they are doing the right thing from watching the show and instead they ruin their dogs...if you get my drift. That goes for both Cesar and Victoria. Cesar clearly states...do not do this unless you have consulted a professional.

I think Cesar comes across assertive...whereas Victoria comes across arrogant.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here Cleasanta.

The other reason I like Cesar so much is because he's all about making you look at yourself and the way you behave and how that is influencing your dog's behaviour. I felt like I was reading a self help book when I read "Be the Pack Leader"

Um ah ... naughty Victoria. And see how the owners & dogs were getting stressed ? Someone even put their hands over their dog's ears to block out the noise. To me this is like fighting in front of your children. It affects the dogs more than we think it does. Very bad form Victoria.
