I don't know why you think that's important since you are quite happy to cut and paste it to here anyway. If you didn't get the writer's permission, that's breach of copyright anyway. Not that anyone except the Murdochs seem to care much.
    No.
Its possibly not copyright at all.

Clea has given creit from where the refernces came from as welllinking to it.

    Nope,dont see that as copyright

Why do you think it's not copyright?

I checked the link and there was no free permission to republish anywhere. Anything written that anyone creates is automatically copyrighted by the author by default, unless the author writes something specific about free to copy anywhere else ie gives blanket permission to reproduce. Or they're in China.

There's something called "fair use" where small portions can be copied for educational purposes. But in this case - the whole article was copied.

Putting a link back to the original article or crediting the author just proves that you know that it's copied, ie you knowingly copied someone else's work. And if there is no permission sought or blanket given... What would be ok, is to put the link and then describe the article in your own words. No copyright breach. However given that so many links get broken, articles get archived or moved - copying is more practical.

Forums usually have something in their Terms Of Service (ToS) that says in signing up to the forum for posting, that we give the web site operators the right to reproduce our work, to cover their butts legally. Copyright is usually up to the author to enforce, so most authors don't have the means to pay lawyers to enforce. But the Murdochs (Newscorp) do and they're starting to make noises about going after people with money like Google for caching/copying their stuff. They're unlikely to go after you or me, but the American music industry has started doing exactly that.

And just because nobody pays any attention to the law, only makes it a stupid law, not null and void. However the basic idea of copyright law is not stupid. Just ask JK Rawlings (Harry Potter).

So this post content copyright would normally belong to me because I created it, but given I am putting into a forum, hopefully the ToS specifies that forum users and the web site operators have the right to reproduce, ideally limited to this forum/website but I haven't checked.

Microsoft (and possibly google) have ToS for their online email and document services that give them "copyright" so if you put your novel up onto one of these - you might find they could legally copy and publish it and make money out of it for themselves and you'd get nothing. Although - this might not be legally valid. I'm not sure if it's been tested in court.

Most forums I know who have had unpleasant encounters with lawyers, include something in their ToS that says thou shalt not copy something here that has been published online somewhere else without express written permission from the author.

It's not my job to dob anyone in or say "stop", I'm just saying "Be Aware".

PS the page copied, does have a copyright message on the bottom of it, though copyright law applies whether the page is labelled as such or not.
