Don't Blame the Dog - ABC iview

This is more about People training than dog training...

It was on the telly last night.

12 out of control Brits are sent to learn how to relate to their dogs.

In the first episode they're flown to Australia (rather soggy part of the country - just to make sure they feel at home), to work with a professional sheep dog handler and his dogs.

I think the main thing I got out of this, is if the dog is not listening and you've gone and got it two times, that's probalby not enough - you have to keep doing it - over and over - until the dog eventually understands you mean it.

And you have to be consistent in how you ask for what you want. If you tell the dog what you want - a different way every time - they're not going to understand, or do what you want.

Some how - my command for a remote drop has become something that looks like a formal japanese bow. Instead of me doing a sort of X starting with fingers in the middle and going out...

PS the cat does not get hurt. Looks bad but it's ok.

I'm downloading it so I can watch it on the tele instead of the PC. I just watched the trailer though and it seems to be typical of those types of BBC series that the perceived topic of the series just serves as a catalyst for emotional self-analysis and therapy. Still... I never pass up an opportunity to watch anything dog-training related on tv.

I saw this on TV... i was absolutely amazed when the Kelpies all went for the cat (i was also absolutely terrified for the poor thing) i couldn't believe that these amazingly well trained dogs won't listen to a word that those brits were telling them. Really shows how important authority is! I loved it when the owners came out and simply yelled "Get out of it" and all the dogs just bolted!
My dogs are a bit like this... Dodge won't listen to anyone but my dad... seriously... no one else can control her!
and if Koda is doing something he knows he shouldn't... if i tell him off... he gets the message straight away and won't do it again... but if someone else does it... they will have to be quite forceful before he will stop!

I just realised that they are not showing it in the same order it was screened on BBC! So we're watching their episode 1 which is in South Africa. Now I'll have to download the sheep dog episode too...

I think the same link (first post) will have each episode up as it gets screened. I think it's first on Wednesday night and then again on Sunday night - on the telly, and then up on iview for 9 days after that.
