    Default Reg Needs Your Help!

I was contacted yesterday about this poor fellow in SDCH. Reg has had extensive surgery on his badly injured leg and will need more yet. He is 'unloved and unwanted' and will also need a new home or at least a foster home while he is awaiting placement.

Can you help Reg? Donations and a foster home are sought. He will also need a new and loving forever home in the near future.

    The Reg Appeal

The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home are doing some great stuff these days!

I will also be donating what I can.

I'll have to go and look because I can't get it.

Doh, it is in brackets, not colons!

An update on Reg from Tim at SCDH:

The SDCH’s Chairman Dr Nigel Reay-Young operated on Reg about 9 days ago and his fracture was what could only be described as a “tragic elbow”. A joint where two bones meet is one thing but an elbow where 3 bones meet (and ...perfect congruency is essential) is another thing. In Reg’s case one of those 3 bones was broken into 3 smaller segments, which would often suggest immediate amputation as being necessary – but as Nigel has a Pug of his own, his familiarity with the breed led him to the conclusion that it was worthwhile to attempt to save Reg’s leg. Yesterday (9 days post surgery) he surgically reviewed the case and upon opening he discovered that some of the screws, rather than pulling out of the bone, had sheared off leaving the threads embedded in the bone which made further work almost impossible. At that point Nigel had to make a decision in Reg’s best interests – we could leave a grossly malformed leg that would consistently cause pain or we could remove the leg so that Reg would experience no pain post-recovery. We chose the latter.

Having endured 4 hours of orthopedic surgery initially followed by a further 3 hours of surgery yesterday, we hope that Reg has seen the inside of an operating theatre for the last time. Because of the reduced recovery time involved with amputation vs rehabilitation of a broken elbow, Reg will likely be available for adoption within 1-2 weeks. Thank you to everyone who has enquired about possibly adopting Reg, we will be contacting you all this week, bearing in mind that we need to be cognisant of his newly reduced mobility and associated care requirements.
