Tkay - I adopted my Ollie from the LDH. The people were lovely and the facility in my view is very old and tired, but very very clean. When we were looking for Penny we also went to the LDH. My concern is that they and the RSPCA seem to be more interested in money side rather than finding the right home for the dog. We ended up getting Penny from Save-A-Dog (Yeah, Margy is the greatest)

My take on the LDH was the people work there because they love and care for the animals. I suspect that the power and purse strings are run by a bunch of crusty's who are a little removed from the world of animal rescue!

I don't deny the people that work there care for dogs, not at all. It must be heartbreaking, but they still do it. Hugs to them.

It seems to be the people in charge who are stuck in the past and refuse to change.

If anyone is interested her a link to a website.

I cannot see any reason why they will not work with Rescue groups. They are willing to take dogs and rehome them but the LDH just refuse to do it. What possible reason can there be for killing a dog when someone wants it (unless it is aggressive)

Gotta take a break and go out now to try and calm down

May I have a link to their website? I can only find discussions on them when I Google them. Would like to have a look.

    Thanks

To my knowledge, whilst LDH may have worked with rescues on the rare ocassion in the past, they do not work with any rescues now.

The gentle appraoch has failed. Thousands and thousands of dogs are being killed by LDH on a yearly basis (the stats are given by them, not guessed at).

People do not stand up and say anything becuase they are too scared of being locked out from helping - is that right? Should rescuers sit back and keep trying the gently gently approach while thousands of dogs are needlessly being killed????

Sometimes it takes a group of people making noise to affect change. Sometimes, people have to stand up and fight for what they believe in.

The same management has been at LDH for 20 years. It is time for a change.

In the latest edition of Dogs Life magazine, they state in an interview with Graeme Smith, that the LDH "rescue" more than 10,000 dogs per year. How many dogs do you think they re-homed out of that 'more than 10,000' or were reclaimed by owners (and saved from certain death). I haven't the figures here at the moment, but I'll bet if you look at their yearly report they will have re-homed thousands and thousands less than that.

They don't rescue - THEY KILL.

The fact that they refuse to work with rescue is an utter disgrace.

LDH are about to get a heap of unwanted media attention I think from what I have heard on the grape vine....
