sigh. The way to work with people is not to alienate them. Sure - if you just want to piss people off - throw accusations at them and suppose things. OR you can offer to help them. If I want to save a dogs life - throwing paint in protest (so to speak) is not going to help. Yes - they do put down timid dogs - that is how I lost that shep though IMO to this day many years later - he fine, just a little shell shocked.

What do I suggest? Go and volunteer there - oh wait you CANT because so many people esp on DOL kicked up a stink that they banned volunteers - that went a long way to help the animals NOT!!

You can offer up to foster care - who knows - they might say yes.

Kvetching only gets people so far in the world - we aren't kids and whinging about right and wrong is not going to help - doing something proactive might.

When that is exhausted, then other measures might be appropriate - however, all those people blowing their own trumpets in those threads have not tried anything other than whinging.

Tkay I adopted my girl from there, It seemed clean and the staff i dealt with were great... Thats was 3 years ago...

I am on another forum and the opinion of LDH there is not a good one... But i can understand that if what I have read is correct

But without ever getting LDH to either dispute the claims or so forth, I could not give you an opinion as to what its like there now...

I thought it was rare that LDH would work with rescue... but i am open to be corrected...

Correct me if I'm wrong, as i said I'm only going by what I've read, but this has been going on for many many years and the gentle approach didn't work, that is why people are resorting to more aggressive methods.

I cannot understand why you would ban volunteers because of a dispute with DOL members unless you had something to hide.

As far as i can tell people have offered to rescue the dogs in there, LDH are not interested. And people are doing something about it. They are not just whinging, they are talking to the media and the councils and the politicians.

Why is the LDH so different to other shelters in Melbourne, why do they refuse to change. I simply do not understand their motives for killing so many dogs when there are plenty of people who want to help.

This should not be about any personal vendettas between certain DOL members and the people who run the LDH. It should be about saving as many dogs as possible and if that means spreading the word then so be it.

I would like to hear the LDH side of things as I haven't found anything from them. Does anyone know if there is anything on the net posted by the LDH in respose to the DOL claims?

It's rot that LDH is different from other shelters. Each has their dark spots, it is just that LDH has so much more money they could be devoting to the dogs. RSPCA were widely criticised for building their new offices at Burwood before anything was done about the cages. However - people have to work there - they have to be there all day and the vets are constantly busy - why shouldn't they have top class facilities.

Yes - LDH needs to improve in many areas but so do many other shelters.

If you want to know - call them, write to them, email them.
