And how do you know you are going to get the traits you want when you X breed.

    I agree with this, Myf.

I don't belive one has a chance in hell for desired traits when cross-breeding. It is simply a case of seeing what breed characteristics come to the forefront. A mixed cocktail with no idea what the bartender poured!

And then, what breeds or breed mixes sit up there in the highest percentages?
    Hi DA

I have done a bit of research regarding this.

At this point...there are 1,789 dogs on PetRescue's site.

I did't go through the whole thing, because the same picture painted itself on each page.

Out of 200 dogs...157 dogs were cross breeds...which equals 78.5% of the dogs listed. Out of the purebreds...there were:

    1 Labrador - female
    1 Jack Russell - female
    1 Pomeranian - male
    1 Tenterfield Terrier - female
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 Corgi - male
    1 Border Collie - female
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 German Coolie - male
1 Bull Arab Puppy - female
1 American Bull Dog - female
1 Bull Arab dog - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy - male
    1 Irish Wolfhound - female
    1 Pomaranian - female
    1 Rottweiler - male
    1 Bichon Frise - female
    1 Labrador - female
    1 Maremma Sheepdog - male
    1 Jack Russell - male
    1 Golden Retriever - male
    1 Siberian Husky - female
    1 Shar Pei - female
    1 Cocler Spaniel - male
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - male
    1 Pomeranian - male
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Rottweiler - male
    1 ****zhu - male
    1 Maltese - male
    1 ****zhu - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - female
1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier - male
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Greyhound - female
    1 Boxer - male
    1 Border Collie - male
    1 Kelpie - female
    1 Red Heeler - male
    1 Standard Poodle - male
1 Black GSD - female - I think this one is iffy too regarding "pure"

There were a few on the list which stated they were "purebreds"...not in a million years! I have NOT counted those 3 dogs as pure...but as cross breeds!

When it comes to mixes...a fair bit of Staffy X there...but really there were all kinds of mixes.

Thank you Cleas - your research is appreciated!

Seems like overall the purebreeds are fairly mixed around, a few GH's, a few SBT's and labs etc...but not one breed or more standing out above the rest.

That is a massive percentage of crossbreeds, however!!! Frightening figures, really.
