Default Um What Can I Do for This Poor Stray Shar Pei. Hervey Bay QLD

    Hi, Im new here.

This Shar pei had been wondering around the past week.
Two days ago, He came in my yard and wouldnt leave, He looks to be In very poor condition, I would say he has a skin infectetion....Or allergy rather, He even has scratched himself raw above his ears.

I gave him some some food as he looks very frail. And water.

Now where I live is not safe for a wondering dog, Stray or not, I live on a 100k road so EVERYONE is flying past all the time. Ive done my best to make him a RUN. And used and old collar and lead and attatched it to a chain on a D link.

I would Love to help him, But Im limited to what I can do for him, And I really dont think Taking on extra Vet bills is the wisest thing for me, And my husband really wants to help, BUT he is never home and always has the best intentions......BUT I KNOW IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Plus we already have other animals. That Im sure given the chance he would eat.

He looks to of had no owner for quiet some time, I see no sign of anyone caring for him of recent.

Now here is the hard part, Im out of town with no transport.

And my husband is never home in buissness hours.

I dont have anyone else that would be available to me durring buissness hours either OR willing to put a dog in the car.

SO WHAT CAN/SHOULD I DO????????????? HELP ME PLEASE!!!

    Hi Hervey Baby Lover,

I lived in Toogoom for nearly 6 months. I was thinking that you could possibly make contact with a Fraser Coast Organisation: Fraser Coast Dog Rescue - Save a life

Their intent is to rescue dogs from possible euthanisation by council but dog lovers are dog lovers. This might be a place you could get some advice and guidance given your location and situation.

I figure it's worth a try (skip the middle man - the pound in this situation).

    Good luck Hervey Bay,
    Josh

Next time you find him, hold onto him and get back to us.
We have a lot of members who are active Shar Pei rescuers as Choppa has mentioned.

Oh my goodness, this boy sounds to be in a bad way.

Firstly I wouldn't hand him in to general rescue as there are not the # of pei around for the average shelter to have had experience with and franky with a skin condition like you describe I would suspect he wouldn't pass the shelter test and would quite possibly be pts.

So, lets firstly address his skin condition. This boy can't have the proteins or grains which is in most supermarket commercial dog food. However, Natures Gift- tinned chicken and chicken kibble would be a good cheap alternative for him for the interum and is available from the supermarket. Most importantly, he should not be given any beef!!

Before I can organise to get him into care, I need to know just how aggresive he really is, given he is scared and hungry. I guess he hasn't tried to eat you given you have a collar on him? You say he is not trustworthy with your other animals, are these dogs and cats or chooks etc?

How far from Brisbane are you? Could your husband possibly get him to Brisbane?

Please send me an email amanda.booth@sharpeirescue.com.au and include your phone number. I will call you on Friday night to make appropriate arrangements to take him into care. I am sorry I just won't be in a position to call you any earlier as I am tied up with vet visits, a trip to the airport and placing 2 fosters down here tomorrow. But I do promise to call you just as soon as I get in on Friday.

Thank you so much for going out of your way to keep this boy safe!!

I hope the poor little man can find a place in someone elses heart. I couldnt agree more on the not passing shelter test & having to be pts. This breaks my heart as I have had that same experience.
Have all my fingers and toes crossed that he can get to Rescue.

I lived in Southport for many years too before moving to Burleigh Heads and then in 1972 (I think) moved to Victoria.
