Default Medical Insurance for Dogs - Any Good Providers???

    Hi

I like the idea of medical insurance for my dogs but have not yet found a good product in Australia. Has anyone had experience with good/bad pet insurance providers/policies? Please tell.

(I looked at HCF's product which is via Manchester Unity, but it appears pretty useless. The clauses cut out all the really serious diseases that you'd want to insure a dog against getting. It only really covers accidental injury, and even then the cause of the injury must be on their list of acceptable causes! It's quite diappointing for an HCF product.)

    Thanks

Lots of different places offer pet insurance now. The RSPCA, Animal Welfare League (I think), lots of human insurance places too (like NRMA I believe).

I've seen pet insurance comparison tables out there but I hadn't even heard of the clauses until now so I think you'll just have to individually check them out. Depending on your budget, some will even cover your annual check ups/vaccinations.

Good luck finding some good insurance

My dog is insured with Medibank Private and so far so good. I have only $100 excess, so even if the bill is a few thousand dollars I would pay only $100. From memories is cost me between $400 - $500 per year. I didn't go for the top cover - got only illness and accident.

I have insurance with Petsecure for around $22 per month with a $300 excess. They paid for my dogs scans and bilateral elbow surgery for dysplasia and when she had pyometra. They seem reasonable so far.

I have Insurance with Medibank Private. I have chosen to have $450 excess. They have taken on my newfs with out clauses, because they were vetted and had no pre-existing medical problems. Personally I have had no claim, but my friend with a newf has had to have knee surgery and everything was paid promptly and the dog is still insured plus this still includes the same knee. I pay about $56.00 per month for my three.
