Default Dog minding swap - 2014

I love my dogs (2 toy poodle X’s) but I also like to travel and would like to do a 2-3 month trip overseas sometime in 2014. I’m wondering if there’s anyone else out there in the same boat who would be interested in swapping some dog minding? Depending on where you live, I may be able to mind your dog/s in your own home if preferred, or otherwise in Melbourne at my place. I’m willing to travel as far as NSW or SA for the right doggy holiday home. My dogs are taken for 2 decent walks each day (5 kms in the morning and about half that in the evening), are on a raw diet, basic obedience trained and very respectful and affectionate. Your dog/s would be very well cared for and given plenty of exercise and attention. Please get in touch if this sounds like something you’d like to explore further.

This might seem like a good idea...

I tried it the last time I went overseas - total fail.

My dog will happily make all the decisions if anyone else asks her what to do. Which did not work so well with my friends - both into dog training - but she was training them and they had no counter for it and she drove them nuts.

So she went on my back up plan which was boarding kennels. We did go out and check out the boarding kennel before hand so they had all her details and mine - just in case my friends couldn't cope. And that's what happened.

I won't even wish her on my close family. Their fences aren't good enough. And my mum isn't strong enough.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate that it's not for everybody or every dog. However, people who have cared for my dogs in the past have thankfully found them to be a pleasure to have around.

    hi Scout

My friends really like Frosty. It wasn't until they'd had her over night that things started to go wrong. So I guess if you do want to do a dog swap, make sure you have a trial swap over a weekend or something before committing to it.

I know this is an old thread, but how did you go with the dog minding swap?
I'm looking to have someone on hand to look after my dog from time to time in exchange for looking after theirs.
