Default Antibiotics and cortisone putting dog off food?

    Hi Guys,

Meika has been on antibiotics and cortisone since Thursday for an allergy, she's been eating very well and the vet said that the cortisone will make her more hungry than usual. We went to Million Paws Walk today and she was her usual happy self then tonight when I gave her dinner she picked out the yummy bits (a few spoonfuls of chicken mince) and then wouldn't eat anymore.

Then when we were eating our bbq dinner she was hanging around a lot more than usual, begging for our food, we didn't feed her any and I felt like the worst mum ever haha!

Should this be a concern? Is it possible that antibiotics or cortisone can put a dog off certain types of food? Or has she just decided to be picky and annoying?

I will try and feed her again in the morning and call the vet if she still doesn't eat it.

I really wouldn't worry too much - I would expect that your pup had a really really big day today and is pooped ! If the combinations of the drugs have worked well since Thursday - and she has been eating well - then see what things are like in the morning.

As long as the pup has been drinking water - and the other end of the pup is working well - I would be waiting until the morning. Probably just needs a good sleep ! Most pups that we loving owners own - would definitely not be hard done by if they missed a meal or just had a bit of one for just one meal !

If there's one thing i've learnt in the last couple of weeks it's how drugs can affect your dogs behaviour. Mojo was a doped up wierdo for a day or 2. One minute he was fine , then he turned a bit psycho, then fine again...
Riley's advice sounds good to me. Hope Mieka comes good soon.

Cortisone can often increase the appetite, but some anti-b's can be quite the opposite...What anti-b's have you been given?

My dog can sometimes also be a little too tired to eat, but if she is still that way in the am, I would at least ring the vet

    She's on cephalexin anti-biotics.
She is eating much better this morning so must have just been exhausted from a big day! It was just unusual because she LOVES her food! Thanks for your help guys
