Thread: Vaccination Question

I guess all vets have different protocols on what vaccination to give - and I guess they all have their reasons why.

Generally puppies get three vaccinations. Their first one is generally a C3 vaccination and is given between 6-8 weeks of age, the second one is a C5 vaccination and is given between 12-14 weeks of age and the third is another C5 vaccination and is given between 16-18 weeks of age.

A puppy (older than the ages stated) or a dog with no vaccination history get two vaccinations, generally C5's which are given four weeks apart.

PLEASE NOTE THE WORD 'GENERALLY.' Like I said, all vets have different vacc protocols, I'm just giving info from where I work.

We do our pups at 6 weeks and then the buyer is told to do at 12 and 16 weeks - annually thereafter with C5.
There is a 3 year vaccine for some of the viruses but you would still need the annual Canine cough vaccination.

This is the protocol I am under just waiting for Mags 16 week and the vet said a week after that she is all clear.

The choice is yours but if you want to put them in kennels then you have to have the C5.
This is my understanding below. I'm sure a vet would confirm this for you though.

    C3
    Canine distemper virus
    Canine adenovirus
    Canine parvovirus

    C4/5
Canine parainfluenza virus (Kennel cough - viral)
Bordetella bronchiseptica (Kennel cough - bacterial)
Can't remember which one is 4 and which one is 5 out of the two above.

**Forgot to say that C5 means all the C3 PLUS the kennel cough part are in it, not just the kennel cough.
