    Default Advocate

Does anyone else use this on their dogs?

I use it with Tony although it is pretty expensive.

Are there any cheaper alternatives that are just as affective?

Hey Morgan. Have a look for it on ebay. I just did mine after we had a stray cat hanging round with hideous ear mites... couldn't catch it though

It was stacks cheaper on ebay, and worked out to $15 per dog - with some cunning bidding!

I use this for the 2 dogs and 2 cats. It is expensive, but it does just about everything (I still give worm tabs every 3 months).

I might have a look on ebay..see how I go!

I only use Sentinel and Capstar on my dogs and the rescues. I purchase them online (different places each time as I buy from the cheapest and the prices continually vary) and I purchase the 11kg - 22kg even though the Pugs only weigh up to 10kgs. I give each dog half a tablet.

It works out at around $4 per dog per 6 week period. I dose 6 weekly and not 4 weekly and have been assured by my Vet that this is adequate.

This does not cover mites or ticks though but I have never had an issue with mites and Ilive inland so we don't have ticks.

I use Advocate too, on both of my girls. I cringe at the price everytime.
But have found ebay and some online pet supplies ( can't remember which sorry) to be cheaper. I was amazed at how well it worked on Lola - she was covered in fleas when i got her.

Wish there was another alternative that was a bit cheaper, although it is very good and does its job very well. Tony is yet to have a flea.

Capstar is dirt cheap and will kill the fleas on the dog. Sentinel renders any existing flea infertile so it cant breed. With the low cost of capstar you could afford to give it weekly and get the flea population under control.

Every rescue that comes into my house is given a capstar tablet on the first day.

I take in rescues and have never had a flea problem with the routine of using Sentinel and Capstar. All dogs live inside too so I am fussy about fleas.

We stopped using the stuff since times got tight, but we've been using that flea shampoo instead. It works well, and over a few washes gets rid of the fleas. You can buy a medium bottle at the supermarket for about $10 - $20. It lasts about 2.5 months.

I also NEVER use Advantix. It never works at all - wasted money. My two dogs were on the so-called "tick control", and one of my dogs suffered from Paralysis Tick - while having Advantix treatment. Of course, she had to be put down, and it canes every time I think about her.My other dog has had about 5 ticks in her lifetime, and 3 she got since we moved into suburban Kenmore!
