Thread: Golden Retriever Coat Driving Me Nuts

  1. Default

My friend has a shampoo to prevent this from happening. I'll ask her about it.
Border Collies are like potato chips, you really can't have just oneā€¦

A king comb is pretty good. I have two, one for the shorter coat on head and back and one for the longer fringes. I have a Gordon Setter and as with many breeds once she was de-sexed it became thicker and coarser. Do not get the rip off brands they don't work as well, you can get replacement blades as well. They are good for general grooming and getting out knots. Best to always groom a clean coat as a dirty coat blunts the blades.

It may be of benefit to you to take him to a groomer and have the coat thinned out, not shaved then you've got a good start for maintaining him that way.
