Default My Baby Isn't Well :(

Today hasn't been a good day!

Woke up with Abbie acting really quiet, mopey and depressed. She was quite obviously in pain and had bloody discharge. Called the vet up and took her in at 9am. He said he could feel a lump the size of a tennis ball in her abdomen. Thinks it could be some kind of foreign material left in her after she was spayed (we had lots of complications with her wound becoming infected after that operation).

She's in for tests and an ultrasound and will most likely need surgery later today to remove the lump. He can't be sure what it is until it's out. I'm so panicked and upset..how did i miss a lump that big i couldn't feel anything abnormal on her belly. We're in for a vet bill of around $3k!

Waiting by the phone for the results of the blood tests....

Oh no... Lots of hugs. At least it sounds like they know what they've got to do to make her better. Hope it will all be pretty straightforward and that she will feel better very soon.

As for the money... try to block that out of your mind completely. Total surpression is the only strategy for dealing with those unexpected but necessary expenses.

Oh Tiff - I am so sorry. Poor Abbie!!!

What responsibilities does the vet who spayed her have if it is something left behind from his surgery? I hope they will offer some sort of compensation if that is the case.

Do not beat yourself up, you are not a Vet. On top of that she was seen by vets due to the complications at the surgery site and they did not pick it up either.

Lots of positive vibes for Abbie today.

This is not a good threat. It is just so bad to bad to hear these things.
What I find is worse is the fact that there is nothing that you can do.
And you feel so helpless being in this position. Hope all goes well.

It could have come up really fast.

    Sometimes abscesses form quickly.

Sorry that the spay op has been full of complications, I think I'd want a discount if it's the same vet.

I just hope it is something straight forward! The vet asked if she is usually so timid. I said yes and that she has never bitten but has nipped at new people. Too be honest i wouldn't be shocked at all if i learnt that she was beaten before i got her. I asked if there is a possibility that it could be some kind of hematoma if she had trauma to that area but the vet can't be certain. It could be a whole range of things. Hopefully nothing cancerous, he said it's uncommon in a dog so young.

The money isn't on my mind..but i kinda regret not insuring her! always had a feeling she would be a problem child haha. but i've got money put away and i can do a payment plan with them.

The spay surgery was done at the breeders vet, which is different from mine. So if the lump has been caused by the spay surgery, my vet told me he will personally call the other vet to inform them they need to pay. That's a little weight off my mind at least.

Hoping everything will turn out ok. Both with the surgery and monetary compensation if it was thru negligence.

Did you meet any of the breeders other dogs?
