The vets and the specialist have said point blank due to the shape of their Tibial Plateau they are gnetically predisposed to the injury. Due to the overprounounced slope the cruciates are under more pressure with every step than in a dogs leg with a flatter Tibial Plateau.

Further add how robust and active they are it's a recipe for disaster. Neither of them were over weight when doing it. They were both fit healthy and well exercised, but apparently no matter what I did it was basically inevitable. When the specialist did Lilly, he told me to expect Boof's to go at some point given they are from the same parents as chances are they would both have the same tibial plateau shape.

It's still considered an acute injury that causes it, but with a flatter plateau it would take a much more significant 'incident' to cause the rupture.

    Hi Shelby

My boy Jasper may be having surgery for hip dysplasia next week. He will need complete rest for about 4 weeks, with assisted walks to 'toilet'. How did you find it with your dogs? We both work full time, and would it be best for crate or just to keeping him confined to 'pen' or laundry. Not sure what to do! Hope your gorgeous Lilly and Boof are ok

Oh my I forgot all about you I'm so sorry.

I hope surgery went well. Boof m lil are doing well. Waiting on our next lot of surgery which will be 28th this month. Lillys left leg m boof's right.

As for crating i am lucky enough my parents live 8 doors down so when OH is out of town for work they fill thegap n pop down for toilet duty. The longest we get us about 3 hours.

Thankfully they like their crate. I pit toys etc in there n give them chews like buffalo pizzles etc. I weaned them into it by sitting in there with them for short stints etc and built it up.

I hope recovery goes well n feel free to ask any questions.

Oh we leave the lead on top of crate so it's always right there when needing to get them out.

Fingers crossed this lot of ops goes well for both Boof and Lilly. Good on your guys for going through it with them.

Poor Lilly, this is a lot of crate rest for the poor thing, sure she will be happy when she is back to her old self.

What a run of bad luck!

I hope Lilly is going well and has a quick recovery. We are currently recovering from just one cruciate tear on the left hind after TTA. I wonder are you going to have the 2 repaired at the same time?

My vet told me that something like 40% of dogs that have onside tear will have the same on the opposite side within 3 - 4 yrs. That's when I checked the Insurance policy and found that they only cover one procedure as it is a 'Bilateral Condition".I would be interested to hear what the outcome is with your insurance.

In the meantime Good Luck and Best Wishes
