    Default Cherry Eye Shar Pei

Can anyone with experience in Shar Pei eyes problems help an owner,

We are minding a lost dog here, he has what looks to me to be severe cherry eye in both eyes, however cherry eye does not normally blind a dog (or not a Neo anyway) this dog is blind or so close to it that it does not matter, his eyes are milky and he is walking into fences ect.

I have been able to trace his owner through his chip but because of distance they cannot pick him up for a couple of weeks, his owner seems to think he just need an operation and he will be fine, I have asked my vets opinion, she has not seen the dog but did say they are hard to do, and that if he has already gone blind he is better without his eyes at all as they will only continue to cause him pain.

Any breeders out there willing to advise please, I have no idea of this dog's background but he is a nice red dog only young and nice nature, his owner does not understand how bad he is and needs advise too.

These people are very experienced with Shar Pei and could probably give you some specific advice.

Sometimes it takes several ops to fix a Shar Pei's eyes. The cloudiness looks like cateracts to me. Which can also be fixed with eye op.

Sounds like a combo of cherry eye /cataracts. Cataracts can have surgery done. So can cherry eye. Early cherry eye can sometimes be minimised with some corner eye massage. I did this for our previous Newfy rescue, who was too sick to have surgery.
The cataracts can be caused if the cherry eye has been infected and caused irritation to the lens. or the cataracts can be cause by genetic or other injury

Thank you both, I am only familiar with Neos with cherry eye ,and have not seen this cloudiness before, the poor dog is walking into fences so is pretty well blind as he is, I will follow up link and get all info I can to pass on to his owner who seems not to understand how bad he is
