No just a can of sardines or tuna a couple of times a week will do.

What kind of dog is it?

If you do feed fish oil it needs supplementing with vitamin E (I think). Too much fish oil can deplete the vitamin E and cause nasty side effects that look like arthritus

I just feed mine half a tin of sardines about two nights a week with her regular food.

Is there some reason why you think you should give fish oil? Has he got skin problems?

    thanks for the advice!!
im also on a staffy forum and they always talk about it on there.
he is a blue (prone to more skin problems) but has no health issues at all so far.
maybe its the people with staffys and skin issues??
i feed pup raw which includes a tin of sardines per week, so that should cover it then by the sounds of things
    thanks heaps, Renee

I give cold salmon oil capsules to my dogs. I always give Vit E with it, single dose. i have the reason somewhere in all my stuff, but cannot find it.
I also still feed sardines, which they love. Plus Vit C, glucosamine and kelp.
the Glucosamine/chondroitin is a giant thing. the rest is a whole diet thing

Staffy skin problems can be an issue but I have found many have flea & dust allergies more than anything.
I always advise staffy owners to feed fresh & no additives & to keep an eye on skin condition. If it seems dry add more oils to thier diet, if it seems oily cut back on oils & to never leave soaps & sprays residue in their coats.
I have a couple of friends staffy dogs that are on salt bush leaves & chia for their coat also as we had great success with a blue bitch with bad skin who has had full regrowth & no more systoms since starting the salt bush & chia.

Just moved to Australia from the US a couple of months ago. I've been looking for salmon oil for my dogs and haven't really seen it anywhere. One of them does have minor skin issues and has gotten worse since not having the salmon oil. Anyone know where I can get some.

Also, I like the idea of trying them on sardines. What type/brands would you recommend?

I eat and feed my dog brunswick sardines in olive oil. Those ones are from Canada. I can't find any tinned ones from Australia and I don't trust the ones from asian countries are safe to eat.

I think salmon is pretty easy to get, I guess you could feed that. Most of the salmon available in Australia is farmed and sold for humans to eat, so there wouldn't be much oil. I guess you could ask at the fish mongers.
