well he seems to be feeling much better

he was so full of energy last night when i got home that i took him on a 15min walk round the block...but he was still very restless and wanted to play all night so i think he's definitely feeling better! (he normally gets 10min walk + 45min in the off lead park...lots of energy to burn!) i didn't want to expose him to too much stuff so just let him run around the back yard and in the house

he ate around 2/3 of his dinner too last night and this morning had a semi-hard poo so i think we are definitely past the worst of it!

thanks for everyone who posted...it's been a very long 3 days!!

lots of little meals are better than big ones while he's still feeling off, and stay on the (boiled) chicken and rice until you get a couple of firm poos and then gradually introduce his normal dinner - don't suddenly swap.

Did you find out where he picked up the bug?

thank you so much for everyone who was concerned - your support was sooooo helpful during this stressful time.

thanks for the tip - we'll make sure we keep his food nice and plain until we're sure he's 100% better

when we spoke to the vet she said he could have just encountered something he was unfamiliar with...? we did take him to a different park the day before he fell ill - but i don't think this is a reason to stop exposing him to different environments...?

    Exclamation Update - and WARNING

Just found out something disturbing on the weekend about a potential health problem with a park we have been to recently. We went to Vic Gardens in Prahran last Saturday for a playdate.

Jax developed his gastro on Tuesday which the vet said he could have picked up anywhere so I didn't think much about where he could have picked it up...just wanted my little guy to feel better!

Anyway, two days ago we went back to Victoria Gardens and we spoke to a lady there who told us a few dogs have gotten sick from playing in the stagnant water at one end of the park!

the lady told me symptons of the sick dogs were similar to what Jax had but they also were also very itchy...and the symptons take a couple of days to show - hence i didn't make the connection. Needless to say we took off pretty quickly after that. So just thought I should post a warning as I think it's probably best not to go there until the park has been properly drained!
