    Default Gunk/discharge in an Eye

    Hi,

My minis seems to have this light grey gunk/discharge in his left eye and I am wondering if any other members have experienced the same problem.

I do not think the eye has infection as I checked both eyes and the discharge is more apparent in the morning (one cleaning per day is enough)

    My question are:
1.could this be a drainage problem (as I noticed similar gunk/discharge in the right eye but it's usually outside of the eye)
2.can i keep cleaning the gunk with a cotton bud every morning (of course very gently)
3.is there any way I can treat this problem.

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine get this often from dust in their eyes, and especially if one is shedding and they sometimes get a hair in their eye. I just wipe it out whenever I see it, an try and fish out a hair of there's one in there! If the eye looks red or inflamed it's a different matter and could be infected.

Ollie (da puggy) wakes up with gunk all of the time and if Miley didn't lick them clean, I'd clean them with a wet cotton ball.

    As above

If the discharge changes colour or they show some real discomfort etc then I'd get it looked at.

If it was not there to begin with & only 1 eye dose it I would give it a wash out with salty water for a few days just incase there is an infection brewing.
Probley is just sleep as the others have said though.

    Thanks everyone.

The eye gets gunky mainly in the morning and he does not show any discomfort.
I think I need to trim the hair around his eyes more carefully and see if it gets better. I don't think I need to take him to the vet for this but will consult when the yearly check up comes up.

Like anyone else, Id just wipe it off. If it's only an overnight thing then its probably not a biggy.

You coul try cold teabags, works well for conjunctivitis and might clear it up maybe

Yep we get gunk in both eyes in both dogs EVERY morning, there is no redness or irritation apparent to the eyes, the vet has checked their eyes and all is ok. If they sleep during they day we'll have a repeat of morning gunk but they do produce a little during the day anyway.
