Thread: Shedding Question

    Question Shedding Question

    Hi everyone

I've been researching for a long time on all the different dog breeds before I purchase one.

I've nailed it down to either GSD, American Staffy or a Rottie.

Whichever one I decide to purchase it will be coming from a breeder.

To anyone who owns any of these dogs my question is .. How much do they shed?

I can give daily brushing etc
A friend of mine has a GSD and if you run your hand down her back it's covered in fur :P

    Cheers

Amstaffs shed minimally. A good onceover with a brush or glove a couple times a week would be fine. Rotties have a slightly thicker shorter coat that comes out slightly if you, say, rub vigorously. I can't comment on GSDs, since there is the long-coat and short-coat variety, but some members here own them! My aunt had one and she would literally shed furballs every day even with 1/2 hour of brushing every day.

    Hey! Thanks for the reply.

If I get a GSD it will be a short haired one.

I love Amstaffs, but my partner doesn't want me to get one because she thinks they are unpredictable/have traits that are aggressive etc etc bla bla and it will attack my ferret

I think short-coated GSDs still shed, but it varies from individual to individual! Furminators are a good investment.

A well-bred and correctly raised Amstaff (as with any breed) will get along with your other pets. To be honest, a lab is just as likely to attack a ferret as an Amstaff, GSD, Jack Russell or Rottie. Amstaffs do have a predisposition to aggression toward other animals, given their history (and that of all bull breeds) but proper socialisation will override any of that.

Rottweilers do shed but if u give them a good brushing once a week you'll be fine but out of those three breeds, the one with the least shedding would be the Amstaff.
