Default My Little Yorkie Died from Parvo

Hi,I am a bit hesitant here as I have just joined this forum, but in a way I would really like to warn anyone out there who is considering not vaccinating their dog to think it over very carefully. When my little Yorkie(Tammy) reached 12 years old I made the decision not to vaccinate her as she was going blind, and preferred sleeping in her basket to going for walks! If I ever took her out I would be carrying her and there was very little chance of her coming into contact with other dogs. 10 days ago a stray dog jumped our fence and defecated in our garden, I found her sniffing it throughly with some on her chin. I cleaned it all up and forgot about it. 2 days ago she was here, she ate a big dinner(she still loved her food)and curled up on my bed as usual to sleep after her nightime treat of a dry biscuit. Yesterday morning I found a puddle of vomit on the floor,I picked her up and she vomited all down me, it had blood in it and it really smelt bad. I don't want to go into gruesome details here, but that little dog didn't deserve for that to happen to her in her last hours. We ended up having her put to sleep because it was just to distressing for her and for us to watch. I know she was 15, but she was healthy, she loved her food and although blind she was very much aware of what was going on. I feel SO guilty, and I know that I will never make that decision not to vaccinate again. I thought that the dog would be safe at home and with me, but the unexpected happened and trouble came to us. As I said, I was hesitant about posting this, but if it can help to save a dogs' life I will be happy. Thank you.

    Oh, poor little thing

But, hey, please don't feel guilty as most of us wouldn't probably vaccinate such old dog that gets out only occasionally. It was just probably her time to go one way or another. Think about those wonderful 15 years you had together.

Just as a precaution, do not get another dog any time soon as parvo virus is extremely contageous and lingers around for long time. Disinfect your house thoroughly with bleach or disinfectants containing bleach.

    take care
