It must be awful for you wondering about this and thinking the worst, I know I would be a mess if my 4 year old dog was showing these signs.

I really hope it turns out to be arthritis and your poor girl can be managed with medication, try not to give up hope as things can often seem worse than they are

OH poor Maddy and poor you Have you done the xrays on her already? I am asking because from my experience with Ziggy I would get them done by a specialist and not the normal vet. I am saying that as the equipment is simply so much better at the specialist and the xrays will be much, much clearer (of course if your normal vet has the right equipment, no worries. Just ask them).
I can also highly recommend the massage lady GSDs was taking about. She has magic hands!
And also second what myf suggested, swimming is great for dogs with hip problems. Here is the link to the place where I take Ziggy for her treadmill sessions Welcome to DOGS IN MOTION canine rehabilitation : Home

If she gets the Carthrophen (or Pentosan) injections at the moment you will see a difference soon, I am sure! These injections work really well.

Let us know what the xrays say. And try not to be too devastated, I am sure you will be able to manage it (again talking from my experience with Ziggy)

She hasn't had xrays yet, the vet wanted to wait until after the injections. Ill double check when I get home but I'm pretty sure its Carthrophen injection she's getting once a week for four weeks, as well as tablets twice a day.
OH said she's still having alot of trouble getting up in the morning but once she's warmed up she's fine. It's definalty helping she's not yelping when she gets up now, she just crawls around a bit to warm up first.

I'll definatly look into the massage and swimming (luckly she loves the water) thanks for the suggestions

The vet we use is well known for working with greyhounds, I'll check but I'm pretty sure they'll be pretty up to date with equipement but thanks for the heads up I wouldn't have thought to ask.

Pretty good, She had her second injection on Friday.
I could see improvement last night, she was running around like a puppy again and she hasn't yelped in over a week.

Mind you now it's going to be even harder to keep her quiet but it was great seeing her play normally.

We'll be going back on saturday for the 3rd injection and hopefully we'll see her usual vet and he can give us a better idea of what might be the problem

    Quick update.

Madeline has had her third shot. Some days she's good some not. She yelped just now walking over and sitting next to me.

It's possible she may have to have regular injections (3 monthly)
But I'm staying positive, I'm going to start her swimming (just have to renew my lisence first) soon. She loves the water so she'll love that.

ETA, I looked at Dogs in motion unfortunalty it's a bit too far. If anyone knows doggy hydro near Epping I'd love to hear about it
