I just imagined the worst regarding Lady generally seeming to have a down immune system and being a flea magnet. Like cancer or some other debilitating disease.

And for stuff like that, if it has been a reasonably quick decline eg a few months, then the sooner the better if you're going to get her treated. But you'd know that already.

The trouble with being on the bottom of the pile as far as getting a look in goes, means you could be waiting months because something that seems more important will always come up.

So set yourself a deadline and if the check up hasn't happened by say - next Wednesday, book in somewhere else. Maybe another vet can fit you in before or after work if you don't want to take time off, or explain to your vet that you will take time off to get your dog sorted - because for you, she's a higher priority than your vet's personal life. And it's perfectly reasonable that you and your boss would both have different priorities in life. Just make it work for you as well as for him.

Hi Myf, I'm sorry to hear your pooch is having flea issues; I hope they are resolved sooner rather than later.

Have you thought about trying Pennyroyal oil? It's something that our vet had us try during a flea plague at our place many, many years ago. Pennyroyal is basically pure peppermint oil - way too strong to go directly onto the dog, so you add a drop or two to their collar, and fleas apparently cannot stand the stuff... whether it's the smell or something else that does the job I don't know, but whenever we have fleas now, it's what we do, and they don't last long.

Hugs to you and your pooch.

Got a last minute check up on Lades today at work.
He gave her a lufenuron tablet, which is like a contraception for fleas. All fleas on her would no longer be able to lay eggs.
The flea lifecycle goes: fleas jump into ground, lay eggs, jump back on dog, babies grow up in dirt, jump on dog, jump off, lay eggs etc. He said as they jump on, if I comb/wash them out before they have a chance to jump off and lay eggs, I will eventually get them all. So it may be a long process but I will get them all.
Took blood samples, and said most likely not anemic.

    So happy.

Any thoughts on the weight loss and other symptoms? Or is it all down to the fleas? Great news if it is!

Great news Myf. Is the colder weather slowing down the fleas at all yet?

The weight loss was due to the stress meegs.
Yep Natty, definately slowed down. Its been freeezing down here.
I combed last night and only found baby ones, so there a dent in the cycle.
