We used to give our aussie a tim of sardines a week, he loved them!! It was handy also when we needed to give him tablets for his hot spot as he hated taking them (they were huge!!) and everything else he sniffed it out i except fo the sardines

You can get tinned fish that is meant for cats that is great for dogs too, it is like sardines but cheaper, it is whole small fish, not unrecogisable prossesed bits of goodness knows what, there are several brands that have the whole fish in them, I don't have any here just now to check on brands but you will find it in cats food section. Good if you have a large dog or a few dogs as it comes in big tins. For a small dog I would do what D A said and get sardines.

Everyone is recommending that I get a tin of sardines.

    Could anyone recommend a brand?

I like brunswick sardines because they come from Canada. And I think Canada is less poluted than some of the other countries that sell/catch/process sardines. If I could get australian ones I would.

    Thanks.

But is it worth switching her to sardines? She really enjoys Fish for Dogs but apparently there is a lot of oil or fat? Something like that..

I have read that it is cheaper to buy sardines rather than Fish for Dogs. The money doesn't really matter to me it's the ingredients - and what she is getting out of the food etc. Sardines seem healthier so I might go that way.

She currently weighs 1.8kgs and should be 3.5kgs. I spoke to my vets about this and they suggested I feed her a little more.

I read on another thread somewhere that oatmeal/porridge can help with weight gain

Personally, I'd just get her onto a high quality kibble (not Advance if it's making her sick), and giving her a tin or two of sardines a week (with her kibble), and an egg or two, maybe some raw too. It's great for their fur and skin and is a simple diet to follow.

She is on Supercoat and she has been since a baby. I honestly do not want to take her off this after changing her wet food.

Then leave her on Supercoat Diets don't need to be anything fancy. I give Leo one My Dog canned food a day, with either some scraps from the fridge (such as some old ham or devon or leftover bolognaise or whatever), or a cracked raw egg, or a tin of sardines.

I was thinking of giving her My Dog but while she is doing well on Fish for Dogs, why change?
