Default Kennel Cough and Meds for It

We took Banjo to the vet on Thursday last week as he started and coughing and was ill, we suspected kennell cough and we were right.
The vet gave him a shot in the office and also gave us 3 sets of meds to give him twice a day- 2 types of antibiotics and a antihistamine.
Since he has been taking them he hasnt been himself. He wont play, is uninterested in even his favourite ball, he lies around all day sometimes with his eyes wide open, walks around dazed.
I suppose he is just a little drugged out cause of the meds or maybe he is just really battling the fever part of kenell cough now..
Anyway should I get a second opinion from a different vet? Maybe he has given to much meds for his small little body? Has anyone had an experience? is this normal behavour for a dog that is on the right amount of meds? or does this sound a real reason for concern?
    Thanks

Ring your current vet and tell them how he's acting.

Ditto to what MAC said re calling your vet, could be the antihistamines.

Dogs with KC will be quieter, and should be kept as quiet as possible until the worst is over, however I agree to call the vet - the walking around dazed would concern me.

    just spoke to the vet.
he said we did have him on a really high dose of meds as he was so sick on thursday. but said since his cough has settled down heaps we are holding off on one of the antibiotics for now and giving him the antihistamine on alternative days instead of everyday.
phew! hopefully this helps him get well but not be zonked at the same time.
thanks heaps guys. I had no idea you could talk to the vet over the phone like that, i thought they would just say he had to come in again.

Ahhh been stress central since getting little banjo. I didnt even think to plan for him getting sick so soon. I tell you though, having banjo has certainly turned me off ever having a human baby! god i cant imagine the stress from one of those when they get sick etc.

wow, 3 types of meds? your vet must be loving the money

My dog gets canine cough every year, I keep her warm and dont let her get too excited there is no point giving anti bios unless there is an infection. Some people use that honey starting with M (sorry, cant think of it now!)

The only time I have taken my dog to the vet for Canine cough is when she was coughing so much she was loosing a heap of weigh.

    good luck with it
