Having Whippets I've had stitches in dogs everywhere and apart from an occasional lick they pretty much leave them alone.

For a male it's a very easy op. Check the area daily and watch that he leaves the stitches alone. Each dog is an individual. You could always take a loan of the E.C. and have it on hand if necessary.

Pretty seems to be more licking razor rash rather than stitches. I bought a collar from the vet ages ago to have in my cupboard in case of injury for both dog/cat size for something like this if needed/injury, whatever. Beats the old ice cream bucket. I am an hour away from a vet so I have a good dog/cat/bird first aid kit.

Just thought I'd update on Max's "snip" (I hate the word "castration", sounds so harsh lol)

Dropped him off at the vets on the Tuesday evening. He gave me a "kiss" good bye and went off with the vet without a look back. Picked him up the next afternoon. Instead of coming straight to me when he was bought out, he went straight over to a couple of kittens in a cage/run that were for sale and wanted to say hello to them. I had to call his name a couple of times to get his attention, then he came over for a big cuddle and kiss. His eyes were a bit droopy. The vet said to keep him quiet for a few days, watch the wound/stitches make sure they dont get infected and that he doesnt lick/bite at the wound. He's really taken it all in his stride, full of energy, hasnt taken any notice of the wound what so ever and its healing really really well. I bought a collar just in case but havent had to use it so will take it back.

Very proud of my little boy and that he's been so brave about it all.
