Default Doggie Colds and Ear Infections

    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, so first let me introduce myself. My name is T and I have a 5 year old labrador called Holly. Unfortunately she is not well at the moment and I'm worrying myself sick. I took her to the vet 6 days ago as she just wasn't herself, not really enthusiastic about food, lethargic and kept scratching her muzzle. The vet said she had a doggie equivalent of a cold and an ear infection. She prescribed some ear drops and I have been putting them in twice a day since (Holly is not impressed as you can imagine).

My worry is that there has been no improvement yet. Am I expecting too much too soon? She still isn't eating much (this is a labrador they LOVE food). She isn't yelping when I put the drops in so I'm hoping that means they are getting better. I just want my lively, playful lab back. Has anyone else's dogs had 'colds' and how long did it take for them to recover? How long do you think I should leave it before I take her back to the vets?

Sorry, there's lots of questions but she's never been sick before and I'm just a bit paranoid.

Sorry to hear Holly is unwell

I don't think your expecting too much too soon, Holly should be improving well and truly by now.

I am assuming it is a bacterial infection, though keep in mind yeast infections are also possible (different treatment)

I would visit your vet again if you are concerned.

Some nasty ear infections require oral anti biotics with the drops. I use a product called epiopic to clean the ears as well. Just a few drops in the ear, gently massage and wipe out gently with a sensative skin baby wipe.

Hope this helps and let us know how you go...
