    Red face Bones

    hi all!!

ive got an issue with bones. Gyps cant eat them without either becoming very constipated or having bad diarrhea( and some times its both at the same time first she will be constipated and after she manages to pass the errrr blockage the runns start!)

do you think i should just not feed her bones ??

What type of bones are you feeding her? Cooked or raw?

Another questions after Greys too, Laura.

Is Gyps on a raw food diet at ALL times, or is she also eating processed food (dry kibble) as well as the bones?

    she ONLY gets raw bones.

she gets a mixed diet of raw and supercoat dry stuff and she gets some of that chicken and veg dog roles. can food seems to give her the runs. it kinda reminds me of a pancreas issue ie not processing fats very well

The chicken and vege rolls are full of preservatives and stuff Laura. Lots of grains, most of them. But each to their own.

Reason I asked that question is that raw food and processed food (kibble) are digested at entirely different rates. I know that many, many dogs have their kibble mixed with their meat and suffer no problematic consequences, but it's kind of like the cooked chicken bone theory...

I know many ppl who stupidly continue to feed their dogs cooked chicken bones because "they've never had a problem with it." Sigh.

Another thing is that different bones have different...compositions. Some bones are very rich in fat, and this can at times upset the digestive system of certain dogs. Some dogs will eat and love and have no problem with pork bones (if prepared correctly) and others will have problems, some won't even touch them.

GSD's in my experience are reknown for digestive issues. A fair percentage can be very sensitive in the gut and bowel department.

I would seriously consider taking away the commercial food from Gyps and slowly putting her on a solely raw food diet. Particularly because she IS a German Shepherd.
You can also try giving her yoghurt each day on her meat, but I find the flora powder a much better alternative. It does not need to be done permanently. Something to consider, anyway.

since i put her on the rolls shes had no issues at all. my old lab had pancreatitis and everything would effect her but these rolls she couldn't eat bones either. i never mix raw and processed she either gets one or the other and she gets yogurt about 3 time a week.
all bones seem to do this to her. beef, lamb. leg bones, necks. ive tried so many different types of bones.

Oh. Stop with the bones for a while. Or experiement with her diet by introducing just bones for a couple of days. See what happens. Then introduce the other stuff. Could be surprised what's doing it. Does that make sense?
