My brother nearly died when he was 16 months old from having a seizure. To cut a story short, the doctors gave my brother a shot that would stop him from having a seizure (he had one that lasted 40mins) instead giving him a dose for a 16 months old, they gave him a dose for a 16 years old. The shot stop the seizures then they had to pump his stomach. i was 4 at the time and i remember sitting in PHM in the kids waiting room, colouring in.

I have a question for Anne, Do dogs wake up and dont remember that they have had a seizure? like i know with humans that sometimes they dont remember having them
How would we know really...they can't really answer us if we ask them the question

Marc could always remember...he could also remember hearing me screaming the first time he had a grand mal seizure. He said...I could hear you mum....first screaming...then talking and saying wake up sweetie, but there was nothing he could do about it. He said it was like being stuck inside his body, but his body wouldn't listen to him.

Had my beauty sleep (which I so desparately need - enormous black bags under my eyes - LOTS of coverup needed lol) disturbed at 7.30am to ring and ensure Scot was working morning shift, which he wasn't. So the divine Miss Bella is booked to see him tonight at 5.30pm.

I also cancelled Inka's desex as I think I need her to recover for another week or two before going under the knife. my problem?? with this is that as far as I know she is not vaccinated, so rock and a hard place, risk vaccinating her after she was so unwell, or not. I have chosen to do the latter given she is happily playing in our front yard and is really at no risk. Fingers crossed.

OK, Bella is on Phenobarbitone twice daily to try to keep the fits at bay or at least down to once or twice a month. Meanwhile, Scot is making enquiries with the pathology clinic to look into the genetic issues you brought up Clea. He took my print offs and made notes while I was standing there.

He also looked up the cat poop thingy (I am not remotely medical- can you all tell lol) and decided that this was not the case as she didn't have other symtoms.

We discussed diet and agreed that trialling her on barf was probably the best option at this point. BTW she has lost 0.5kg since last week which I an sure is related to the BARF formula I made her.....YAY

Downside is that the tabs he has placed her on will make her more hungry....if that is at all possible

Like I said...she is probably too old to be showing symptoms of L2-HGA, but it is worth a test.

The "pheno's" might be making her more hungry...that doesn't mean you give her more food If she is hungry...give her a carrot or celery to chew

The increased hunger can lead to pica as well in some dogs (like my Monte). The upside of the increased hunger is that they take their meds more readily as they will gobble down food.

Many of these symptoms will settle, so be patient. It can take up to 3 months though. Their body naturally adjusts to most of it. The Vet should have scheduled you in for bloodwork in 6 - 12 weeks to check the levels of the Pb.

The most IMPORTANT note with Pb is that it MUST be given EVERY 12 hours. Pb drops very quickly in their system after 12 hours. We medicate at 5.30am and 5.30pm every day of the year.
yep...the therapeutic level must be maintained...just like with epilepsy meds

Thanks ladies. I will keep my alarm permanently set for 10am and 10pm as this suits our life style better than 5.30am and pm (eeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk)

Yes she is lethargic and yes she is drinking more. Thanks for the carrot and celery tip, good thinking! She is booked in for bloods in 8 weeks.

I actually rang the vet this morning and told him she was too sleepy and that I would reduce her tab to 1/2 twice a day. He told me in no uncertain terms that he was the vet and I was not and that I am to let her adjust to the 1 tab 2 x a day lol. I do try it on occassionally!!!

I am really happy she has lost the .5kg on the barf. We are moving to the new house tomorrow so looking forward to getting her into that pool and working some more weight off (Miss Bubba and me)

I can not thank you ALL enough for your support throughout this ordeal. It has kept me (partially) sane and allowed me to "manage" her situation with a degree of confidence, which is so very important.

What a wonderful thing the www is to allow us contact with one another, it never ceases to amaze me
