all dogs are natural leaders gama! AND YOU DO ABUSE YOUR DOG!!!!! maybe not in the way that most people see as abuse but what you are doing is the same just in a smaller form.

You need to use praise for the good things NOT abuse for the bad things! This is how you make a dog realise YOU are the pack leader!

10 TIMES IS 10 TIMES TOO MANY!!!!

I do not condone a 'tap' (and I literally mean TAP) on the nose for the wrong behaviour but this is a last resort! and I have never done this more than twice in any of my dogs lives!

    Praise is the BEST METHOD!

TO BE SPECIFIC I SAID I HAVE TAPPED HER ON THE NOSE!!!! AND I ALSO SAID LITERALLY TAPPED!!!

    How old are you Gama?

How long have you had your dogs?

Like I said I have 3 dogs and I HAVE TO separate them whilst feeding because no matter what I do it is in a dogs nature to protect their food.
On the other hand whilst any of my dogs are eating I can lay down and stick my head in their bowls and pretend to eat their food. They would never growl or react in any way (other than a wag of the tail) because they know I am the pack leader.

You should have taught these things when the dogs were pups and you wouldn't be having the problem now!

We are farmers, never hit our dogs, that IS abuse and very old school thinking. Much like taking a belt to a child to make them do what you want. There are better ways to do it instead of fear response.

You could also be jailed for either, despite your opinions.

Punched your dog in the face..To stop aggression?

If I was a dog, and someone punched me in the face, I'd get up on my hind legs and bloody well punch you back!

Stupid and counterproductive. So stop hitting them.

I have an Amstaff that always pushes the boundaries & tries to be dominant but you can put them in their place without violence, when she growls at me when I go near her when she is eating I take the food away from her, then put it down, then if she growls again, I take the food away again, I kept doing this until she learnt that I am boss & if I want her food then I will get it. It is very frustrating & tedious but it is what you have to do when you have a dominant dog. If you can't handle this then you shouldn't have the dog. Because hitting it will only knock the confidence from them which a lot of people do because they have "tough" dogs so to speak, so they think this behaviour is ok when it is not.
