Thread: Natural Therapy for a 15 Year Old Lab.

Default Natural Therapy for a 15 Year Old Lab.

Our 15 year old Labrador/Kelpie cross has had great health his whole life. Apart from the inevitable loss in hearing & eyesight, we've never had any trouble with him & he is still going about his daily routine.

As of a fortnight however, he was unwell, and has had bloods taken. These showed he had elevated liver enzymes, slightly high kidney parameters & found he was slightly anemic.

The vet seems to think he has a tumour, and that he needs to have an ultrasound & byopsy done - But we think would like to treat him naturally, as we don't think he would last through Chemotherapy.

We have had him on a drug called Previcox, and have stopped that now due to the kidney & liver findings.

We have changed his diet to fresh vegetables & brown rice, we are still walking him frequently and we are keeping him with his routine.

We would like to open the floor to suggestions, whether they be alternate pathways of treatment, or any suggestions for treating him naturally.

    Hi there Rocklobster.
I hope your boy doesn't have a tumor, but if he does you will have a few hard decisions to make regarding what's best for him. I think a lot of questions to your vet and lots of research. There are lots of well informed people here who can probably answer some of your questions. Wishing you and your boy all the best.

    Hi Emma,

Thank you for your post. I agree that we all have some hard decisions to make, but after speaking with the family we are pretty sure that we would like to treat him naturally! We're going to continue our research, but think that this would be a good place to start

Thanks heaps for the good luck!

Does your vet offer natural therapies ? If he doesn't may be he could reccomend some one. Depending on where you are some one here might be able to reccomend a vet natropath.

Our vet does not currently offer it.

We are in Brisbane, Queensland We think we have found a good one who is located on the Gold Coast, but we still want to look around!

Thank you for all of your help
