Thread: Pet Insurance Blocking Stem Cell Treatment

  1. Default

In Australia there is two pet insurance underwriters. Petsure underwritten byHollard and Aliianz
Petsure has the majority of brands such as RSPCA, Bow Wow Meow, Real Insurance, PIA, Pet Secure, Medibank to name a few. Allianz underwrites PetPlan. I have had considerable dealings )At the top level)with both brands due to trying to go in to bat for dog owners and what we want in terms of pet insurance. I have a survery on my homepage in relation to pet insurance which will be given to both underwriters once we get enough in put.

I have not looked at all the policy wordings for all the insurers but yoou might find that "stem cell" at this point is regarded as experimental if they are not covering it.

The one thing people dont seem to understand with pet insurance is the pre existing clause that happens on every different policy. Once you have had any claim you may well be tied to that company forever as unless it was an accident you claimed for it may be considered pre existing. I have had an exclusion on a lipoma (non cancerous fatty lump) for one of mydogs. I have been discssuing that with one of the board members as I believe that should in the future I have to make a claim on lipoma and it is denied I would win if I took them on. They have not just excluded that one lipoma my dog has had for years but they have exluded all future lipoma as a pre existing condition. Could very well be interesting the outcome but I am hoping for a difinate answer soon. By rights it should be a win for all dog owners in the same boat.

For anyone wanting to know more about Petplan I did my own review and posted it in the general forum of my website. The massive changes they made to all policies in March last year has not only doubled the premiums for many people but also reduced what they previously had in their policy. I am stuck with them unfortunately for one dog who has had no claims but age precludes him from going elsewhere. I put last years policy side by side with the new one so people could see what they would lose.

I have all my dogs < 5 newfies and one Border Collie cross Golden on Medibank Private. We got a 10%discount, because we are witthe too and reduced due to multiple dogs too. They have been quite ggod. they did our katy's ortho surgery without hiccup when we were still on 100%, no possible now. And even though initially there was a hiccup with Yussie for her elbow surgery with the special plug of which only 9 were done in , they would not pay for the plug, but paid for the surgery.......All in all I am well ahead with tehm.yussie in all has cost me about $10,000 and I have had about $8,000 plus back and have only paid $700..sadly she has passed away during an emergency Surgery last week.......But at least we can try our best for them
I will keep mine insured.if i put all the money aside that i have paid out for all the dogs, I would still be a long way off

So sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. My heart goes out to you. I know how it feels to take a dog into emergency and it never comes home.
