Default Do you feed your dog superfoods like spirulina?

I've been feeding my doberman it on and off for a few years as I think it gives her a complete nutritional balance.

I gave her heaps when she was just a little doberman puppy!

What have you used and gotten good results from?

Well that might be true if feeding seaweed provided a complete nutritional balance.

Surely a mix of meat protein and vege is better? What dog would naturally eat seaweed (apart from the Japanese ones?).

My dog likes rolling in it but that's about it. Pretty sure she'd eat nori rolls if I put one in her bowl too. Tho there's never any left over after lunch for some reason.

I feed her yogurt, carrots, casserole (meat, vege, brown rice...) and a bit of kibble.

Pretty sure the kibble is a complete nutritional balance for her - otherwise there's a whole lot of us who'd be lining up for our money back.

I feed my dogs what they do best on after having different ones for 30 years of adult life.
Is this a prelude to spam for this? Where you ask the question then come back and give info and where to buy it?

Any posts made under the name of Di_dee1 one can be used by anyone as I do not give a rats.

You can get spirulina from anywhere that sells health foods, i usually buy mine at the supermarket, but what ever haha

I'm big in to supliments and vitamins, so I'm just wondering if anyone shares my views here

I think most of us want to see some science to back up the value of it before we waste money on it.

For some, there is some good data to back up the claims and for other stuff - it's pure snake oil. Well not from literally from snakes but promises to cure all and doesn't perform any better than placebo.

My fish like it ! Especially the catfish

Not really a superfood as such.... but i've seen Cod liver oil turn my mates Ridgeback's coat into a smooth shiny coat that feels amazing to touch. A teaspoon or 2 on every evening meal. He swore by the stuff.

I'm suss on the whole super food thing. I've been sprinkling Chia seeds on my weeties for weeks now and still no 6 pack abs.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine said that spirulina was no better than milk or meat as a protein source, and was approximately 30 times more expensive per gram.

It might be good for fish but I wouldn't give it to my dogs or me for that matter...sounds like another way to extract money from people.

I've used gluclosamine and fish oil in the past.

I occasionally drop an inner health plus in the bowl or some yoghurt if I can con him into it.

I dont go out of my way to buy dogs only such and such.

yogurt in my dog's bowl - results in a drool puddle on her kitchen mat until she gets permission to eat it.

It's about the only time she does drool.

Yoghurt is the only way Mojo will eat food that has tablets hidden in it. I swear he knows its still in there but the yoghurt gets the better of him every time !!
